How do you know when the brake drum is worn too much and needs replacing?

Unless you have a fairly noticeable groove in it, I wouldn't worry about it. If need be, I can have a set of bands made with thicker lining, and you can turn your drums.

Lavoy,

I measured the depth of wear and it is .035 of wear. Is that to much ?

To me, with standard brake bands, I think you should be fine. There should be that much adjustment, although I suppose over the life of the bands, you will lose some hours because you may not be able to tighten them down all the way when worn.
