New tracks/pads for 450C
New tracks/pads for 450C
I am new to the crawler world, and have recently purchased a 450C. (Will post some photos tomorrow) I am in the process of fixing a few smaller problems now. I am going to have to redo the under carriage before long though. I wanted to get the chains with new pads, and rails. Where is the best place to purchase the parts? I will be using the dozer just a little around the farm (not going into business with it), but I would like to get decent parts since I am going through all the trouble.
Thanks for any info

welcome to the board.
well i hope your sitting down for this one, i'll break it to you gently.
almost every old crawler still in existence needs tracks.
it is the single most expensive fix.
that is why few do it. they just opt to sell the machine.
now brace yourself, if you are willing to spend 4 grand, you might end up with good tracks,, less if your lucky, new, even more.
so there you have it in a nutshell.

That's about what my mechanic told me. I picked the machine up fairly cheap ($4000), and it runs good, trans hydraulics all good. Repacking cylinders now. The undercarriage was why I picked it up for that price. Is there any aftermarket places that you guys buy from? Local deere dealer wants around $5400 for the parts, more than I paid for the machine....LOL
I have a couple more bucks to gather up but I found the best price and warranty thru empire tractor parts in New York to get my undercarriage thru. This is for a 350 though. http://www.empiretractorparts.com

I can attest to the fact that under carriages can rapidly deflate your wallet.
Just completed a complete under carriage rebuild of a 650G, $7985 just for the parts. After it was all said and done about $8700 due to shot track adjusters. 2 weeks labor for 2 men $2400 in labor; stuck and broken bolts were a bear.
I'm not sure how a 450 under carriage would match up price wise to a 350 under carriage but I just received three quotes for my new to me 350. Complete under carrige less the front idlers for $3,953, $4,756, and $5,073 respectively. best price was out of Goodman Heavy Equipment Parts in Peoria, AZ. All prices included delivery to my door.
After speaking to my accounts manager (aka wife) this purchase will be put on hold till a few loads of logs can be sent to the mill to pay for the purchase of the 650 under carriage and the 350 dozer.
I didn't pay much attention till she said something about using the dozer to dig a six foot hole.

I have been shopping around the past 2 days, and the best quote I have is $4457 to my door for 2 sprockets, 2 front idlers, 2 track chains with 16" pads, and top rollers with seals. That was from North American track. I think I am going to order the parts from them Monday morning, (before my accounts manager finds out)LOL. I am still trying to decide if the dozer is worth the tracks HAHA!!!
