Reverser dipstick and fill location on straight 350 Loader?

Post by Trey193 » Sat Feb 07, 2015 10:19 am

I purchased a straigh350 Loader/dozer and have heard all the horror stories on the reverser. I am going to check all fluids today and grease the machine but am confused if the Reverser has its own dipstick/Fluid & filter separate of the transmission. I have ordered manuals but want to dig into it today with the weather being nice. My reverser lever feels sprung goes down to reverse just fine and when i loaded it on the tralor and test drove it forward did as well now i cant get the reverser to the up position to make it go forward, feels like an adjustment issue. Where is the reverser dipstick and filter and is it serpate of the transmission? Thanks everybody !!!

350 reverser dipstick

Post by NWJD fan » Sat Feb 07, 2015 12:11 pm

Dipstick for the reverser is on the floorboard a little to the right of the air cleaner. To check fluid level remove dipstick wipe dry and place into hole but do not thread cap down, remove again and check level. Not uncommon for the throttle and reverser control cables to rust up or freeze up. Was it warmer and damp the last time you ran the machine and freezing now?

Thanks fellas ! Found the dipsticks both are crystal clear and full with Machine off and cold. Also located reverser cable soaked it in PB Blaster will see tomorrow if that helped. Next question is where is reverser filter and also if transmission is indicating full I assume that indicates trans, finals and clutches are also full , I read somewhere that the trans feeds all 3 ?? Thanks again for all the info !!! My serial number is type=E7350 Serial=002742U can anyone decipher yr make an model from those??

NO OIL in any clutches unless you have a "C" model or higher.

Ok good info Brice ! Do u know though if the transmission dipstick indicates full if that insures finals are as well! Just looking to try it out doing some light work to warm up fluids for changing, any other vital fluids that could be low that I haven't thought about? Engine oil good, reverser oil good, trans oil good. Just wondering if I am overlooking anything ?

That s/n you posted is the loader s/n. The machine s/n is under the seat behind where your right foot would rest, on a plate. Then you can check in the FAQ section of this forum for the s/n date ranges.

cheers

PS my throttle cable freezes up solid anything colder than -5. Need to get out the heat gun to free it up. Will work on that one day.

IF you have a 350 or a 350B then the finals are TOTALLY separate from the trans/reverser and could have GO 90 or 303 fluid :) :)

Reverser filter

Post by NWJD fan » Sun Feb 08, 2015 1:20 pm

Reverser filter is located behind square plate held on with 4 bolts on RH side of reverser sump. Reverser, transmission and final drive oils are all separate on 350 and 350B . Transmission fill is on LH side of floor at back end of floor panel under the frame that supports transmission shifter gate. My drain plugs are mostly 3/8 or 1/2 inch square drive.

In order to change the filter you have to remove all the oil so if you are considering reusing use a clean container to collect your oil .

U know I was thinking Lucas had a hydraulic Oil additive as well. We Own a NAPA and I thought I remembered seeing it available. I wonder if its as good as their oil and fuel additives . Also anyone run Shell Rotella T in their 350 or equivalent ? I have several gallons leftover from changing semi oil and was thinking of using it with a bottle of the Lucas engine additive .
