1989 450g

Post by firemen122 » Sat Nov 03, 2012 12:17 pm

Which crawler to purchase. a 1989 450g 5600 hours 16 inch pads worn, u/c 80% or 1987-88 450e long frame 24 inch pads 4200 hour ex forestry machine 80% u/c and almost new pads. both run great. 450e shifting is stiff 3-4 seems to need adjusting. pros and cons. 450 e torque converter machine and turbo 450e non-turbo e seems to have plenty of power and can put it to the ground better than g model with skinny pads.

Thanks

well you be the judge The 450Es were not the best machine in the 450 Deere series and the 450Gs were the best machine in the 450 Deere series as far as I am concerned.as far as differences in machine the 450E tracks with the 24 inch grousers are better for traction in soft going and the 16 inch pads on the 450G series did tend to slip in soft muddy traction areas the 16 inch will last longer by far in the good dry going or rocky tough conditions also the long tracks of the 450E are easier to keep grade with in good or bad conditions these are two different machines the 450G is a good all round dozer in tough conditions and the 450E is for softer under foot and will not last as long on the rockie soils but is a nice fine grade machine .I guess what I am saying is if the 450G had one more roller and wider tracks I wouldn't be dragging the 450E home the 450E isn't a bad machine and the long wide track may be your way to go .Both machines had less blade angle less than the 450D or standard tracked 450E so they are equal in that department but the 450G could also have the blade tilted to be aggressive [top link shortened] in hard going you have a torque converter in the 450G this you can work with the throttle in hard or extreme rough going. The direct drive works well in muddy or soft conditions so that 450E machine is made for limited traction under foot so yes they are two different dozers made for two different jobs what do your work sites have soft muddy or good dry and rocky conditions it's up to you .Digitup.

Thanks for the reply. I am in Florida sand mostly get in the swamps every now and then.I am waiting on the 450g owner to see if he can free up the track links. They were stuck bad. I ran it around pretty hard all the way up in 4 high could not break them free. The 450e just seemed to have so muck more push with the wide track. The 450g pads grousers are worn down pretty good also, I am sure that did not help much. It sounds like the 450g is the more refined machine.
