Hi,

Maybe 'series' means the same as 'phase'. As in a model which falls into the fourth serial number range for redesign.

I have a 58 420c phase III and a 2008 5103 also phase III. For both, I have to go to the third serial number range in the parts list to get the correct bits...

Hmmm. Never thought of that. Tried to research it but found nada. Mine is a 2000 model...never saw a series 1,2, or 3 either.

Hi,

Did they put Series IV on as a decal? Like maybe they were marketing the fact they finally got the bugs out of Series I-III??

Hi,

Ok. They must have done changes for Marketing then. The only time anyone ever bothers to decal up a change within a machine type.

Like you, I wonder what it was.....

Digitup would know. He buys 16 of everything. Except I don't recall him posting in a while.

Series IV

Post by JWB Contracting » Mon Apr 13, 2015 9:23 pm

I believe series IV machines have an upgraded transmission. They have no clutch pedal. When you press the delecelerator fully it clutches and stops all movement.

My Dad does not like our older 450G for this reason, you either need to clutch or shift to neutral to stop, plus he does not like pedal steering or indicator lights instead of gauges. I remind him that he should of factory ordered one then he would have gotten what he wanted. But we alway by used and bought the machine as it had a backhoe strapped on the back.

Still a good machine with less than 8,000 hours on it. Any G series machine is a huge step forward and often have resale values equal or more than comparable H series machines.

Yep...no clutch. No gauges on mine either; wish there were though! Been a really sweet machine, only 3100 on the clock. Rails and sprockets were shot when I got it, so that was the first...well, only project it needed!

Only dislike I have is when you are pushing downhill in steep terrain and shift to reverse...gotta hit the brake if you don't want to roll forward...or dip the blade as a brake. But you get use to that.
