problem....
problem....
I'm doing some switching of parts on my 420. I need to remove and replace the pedals. The inner shaft (brake) is rusted badly to the clutch tube and I can't move it. I have looked at the parts list and know what's in there but.. It won't move. I have removed the brake pedal and gotten the clutch tube moving. So far I can't move the brake pedal shaft.
It also has a reverser which doesn't help matters. That prevents or at least complicates things as to removing the tube.
Both pedals are junk as is the shaft so any suggestions???

Lavoy,
well, I have tranny and tube together sitting on the floor. And, yes, I'm fighting it. Haven't put any heat to it yet. I'm waiting for the tom cat wizz to do something. It that doesn't work it will be to plan b,c, or what ever comes next.
I'm trying to avoid any damage to the clutch tube as I'd like to use it if I can get the brake shaft out.
Gus
My other plan is to cut the end of the brake shaft off, drill and tap it. Make a short, tight tube that matches the clutch tube. Use a bolt on and washer on the end of the short tube and try to push the clutch tube off the shaft. A pusher as opposed to a puller

Gus,
If you can save the clutch shaft tube.Take a hacksaw blade and cut the brake shaft at the housing inner surfaces. Take out the remnants and
press out the brake shaft. The MT brake shaft is common and is
an direct replacement.Just shorten the shaft .The taper pin hole is
spot on for certain serial numbered crawlers.Save the woodruff key
as the JD replacement isn't right. No big deal but won't work
without some filing.Luck,JimAnderson

Plan A didn't work and plan B isn't working so far.
I did split it and that in itself was a project. The reverser tube over a shaft control arm (must be removed to split) had the same problem as the one I'm trying to fix. After an hour of working on it, I got the tube off.
So far heat and Wizz haven't gotten the clutch tube loose. Plan X+ is to just cut it off. I'm about out of time to play with one stuck part!!

Gus,
I recently had the same problem with mine. I believe what happened was that I swelled the end of the shaft very slightly and it got hung up in the tube.
I made a pusher like you were saying and that did nothing.
I ended up driving the shaft back through and filing the end good and smooth and any other burs I could feel.
Not sure how far you got the shaft through but i had my shaft about an inch into the tube when it got hung up.
I had to hit it pretty hard to drive it back through, used a lot of "Wizz" also.
Hope this helps

I have 2 center sections and the second one isn't frozen. I am going to use those parts to replace the ones I'm taking out. I was hoping to salvage these parts and use the best and keep the others for spares?? I will start removing the second set tomorrow. If I need parts, I'll let you know. I think I could easily make any of them if need be, just didn't want toLavoy wrote:Gus,
I have some of the pieces done for the reverser tube and clutch pedal tube, just not enough of them to offer them complete. If need be, you can likely reuse some of your old parts along with what I have done to get you going.
