JD 350bb Trouble

Post by Jacobs3273 » Mon Feb 13, 2012 6:51 pm

Hi I have just bought a jd 350bb with a model 50 backhoe on it, and i am having trouble with the backhoe. I have really good down pressure on the main stick and it will pick the machine off the ground but it will not lift the boom off the ground it has been setting outside for about 8 years prior, also the dipper isn't working, both pull the motor down as if they are trying to work but won't pick up, also the bucket works great in and out. Thanks in advance for any help.

Post by Jacobs3273 » Tue Feb 14, 2012 11:41 am

The tag on the crawler said type 350bb with serial number 126240t

and the tag on the backhoe said type 50 and serial 6920.

I am going to go today and look it over good as i am trying to get it ready to be loaded on my trailer so i can get it home. Does anyone have an approx. weight for this machine.

Thanks again for all your help!!!

Hi Chris-

One thing you may want to know about the Model 50- there is a transportation pin that is supposed to be inserted when trailering it. I believe the pin locks the rotary swing cylinder. Since parts for that swing cylinder are hard to come by, you may want to look into it. I know it is described in my Model 50 operator's manual, but it is at home so i can't look right now.

As for trailering the crawler/hoe combo, it will likely put you above 26,000 GCWR which usually requires a CDL in many states unless you have a specific exemption like farm use. In any case, safety when trailering should supercede the legal requirements as this is a heavy unforgiving load, especially when loading and unloading.

Sounds like a blown lift-check ball, or a blown cylinder packing, or something rusted and stuck.

Some valve-stacks have plastic lift-check balls in them. If they gets sucked in and jammed - the engine will work hard when you try to use that function but the cylinder won't move.

Got it Home!!!!

Post by Jacobs3273 » Thu Feb 16, 2012 2:04 am

Hey got everything on the 350bb working properly except the left track brake and got it home what do you think its worth? The left track is bent to where the front of the track is off the ground a little bit in the front and it has a hydraulic hose that is leaking slighty.

Just wondering how I did on the thing, it fires right up and runs well!!

My vote is you did ok to buy for less than scrap metal value. I think i would torch off the entire undercarriage and find a better used one/newer one. Even if you have to put 5 grand in it would still be worth it. I want to know how the track frame got bent? Did someone go cliff diving or did they get it stuck and start pulling with an excavator. I cant believe the track frame bends easily.

900 YOU DID DAM GOOD if you just want a play toy run it like it is or do complete undercarriage if you want use it often/work or sell the engine ,hoe and a few parts then scrap the rest and i bet you could get at least four fold on your money........ PS i just figured out what the second B in 350bb stands for BENT LOL :D
2010 with 622 dozer with mod. 35 ripper and a 2010 with 622 dozer bought in 1969 and a 2010 loader with drott and mod. 36 ripper
