1010 and 440ICD parts interchange
1010 and 440ICD parts interchange
I bought a 440ICD w/2 way hydraulic blade. I found a 1010 crawler w/6 way hydraulic blade and winch. Undercarriage is worn a lot, but engine just rebuilt. From all I have read, a lot of parts will interchange. I haven't seen it yet, but several people say that the blade and winch will work on the 440. I had thoughts of buying it just for the blade and winch and selling the rest with the straight blade. I'm sure some of you guys out will know if it will work. Can someone help? BTW, I love this site. I've learned a lot just reading the forums.

The blade will fit in terms of bolting it on. You will have quite a few plumbing issues to get the joystick hooked up and some mounting issues as well.
If it is a #10 Deere winch, then I question if it will fit or not, but it may. If it is a Gearmatic 8A or 8G it will fit, you may just need the tie rods and anchors.

1010 I was talking about is in many pieces in 2 different places.Found winch and 6 way blade in briar patch that would make Brer Rabbit cringe. Winch is Gearmatic 713A. Blade looks to be OK. Will get measuremnts when I've got more daylight. Rails and tracks in briar patch too. My friend says undercarriage not that bad. Going to look at rest of it in a day or two at another location. He says engine was just rebuilt. Has new radiator. If I buy it, I may keep the blade, transmission, final drive and all the steering clutches(supposed to fit my 440ICD) and part out the rest. What's the blade worth Brent? Anybody need a rebuilt 1010 gasser?
1010 motor
I'm in the process of pulling my 1010 motor ,in pretty bad shape.Another motor would make things alot easier. How much for the motor and where is it located?I'm located in south east Indiana.
Thanks Russ

blade
I don't know value of blades but I have been kinda looking for one. It is good to find someone close needing parts for the rest of the machine, or consider keeping it yourself for parts, lots of things wil interchange. It is always good to have a few wrecks in the yard I say.

Hey guys,
Finally drug the 6 way blade out of the briar patch. It's a model 612, serial 1962. Haven't found the controls yet. Will this fit on a 440? How about the 713A winch? Afraid I'm opening up a big can of snakes and I don't to get bit if I can help it. It's buy it all or nothing and it seems like a lot of pieces are missing. What would the 612 blade w/controls be worth if it will fit my 440?

What's going on? Started out this morning to pick up my 440ICD that I bought recently. Yes, I know. Bought it a month ago. Us Southern Rednecks don't do anything fast. Stopped for breakfast at local cafe. Mentioned to local plumber and he says he's been wanting one for years. Wants to buy. Go load it up and take it to mechanic to check it out and just go over it(PM). He wants to trade on 2010 gasser he owns w/shuttle shift and 6 way blade(homebuilt like CAT Blade, nice work). Seems like everyone wants my 440 whether they have seen it or not. Plumber ain't seen it, but wants to it. Mechanic seen it and wants to trade on it. This was bought new by Forestry Service w/3079 hours since new. Have I got something? I just bought it to build an aircraft runway(yes, I'm a 30 year pilot) and to work my land. I just want a decent working small dozer that will give me some service. Is the 440 becoming a collector's item?

For me, these little crawlers have both collector and working value. These things live and thrive where $90,000 skid-steers and MFWD tractors with loaders fear to go. Then you load them up and take them home with a 3/4 ton truck, wash them off and still have a unit to admire.
Consider this. The amount that it costs to get tracks re-pinned/bushed is not that much different than the "pickup/drop" fee for a rental. And nobody will stop in to see a D6 working.
Or consider this - the cost of 4 new tires for your MFWD would probably get you a nice 440 project you could use to scrub fencelines. Don't ask how I got educated on this fact!

Hi,
I just use my 420c when needed and don't ever think about the 'collector value' of it. It was my dad's, and I grew up with it around, and, well, it's still around.
Last weekend, I managed to get my JD 4500 4WD tractor/loader stuck in the mud at the edge of the pond (front wheels caked with mud and the rears just spun on the grass, so everything just spun and we went nowhere fast). I managed to lever it out using the loader hydraulics, but I had already got off the machine and headed in the direction of the barn (and the 420) before it occured to me that I could use the loader and save the trip.
You see, once you have a crawler, you tend to always think of jobs in terms of if it can be used or not! In my mind's eye, I could more readily see chaining the stuck tractor drawbar to the crawler dawbar and just yanking it out of the mud than I could prying it out using the loader.
One word of warning, though: Once you get a crawler, you start thinking about additional ones as well! :p
I'm looking for a JD450 with 6-way blade on the front and a scarifier/ripper on the back. That way I can have a big dozer and a small one and apply the correct size machine to the job! :p
Later!
