battery cable size JD450C

Post by Joel Shackelford » Sat Feb 23, 2008 3:59 pm

Another dumb question! Sorry, I just had new cables made up at the parts store in a size 2 gauge so I could hook up two batteries for my JD450C crawler. Is 2 gauge heavy enough battery cables?
Regards, Joel

It should do size wise make shure that you are geting a good conection to the block and ground .I find nither the green or yellow paint are good ground .The power needed to start on some cold mornings is considerable .I found these new Js of mine have no more cable then they need and after Two new computers some Deere rocket scientists have found you need to connect the live as well as the ground cables to the proper components I have noticed thet the new ground I had recently installed has 3 conector points .They just dont make them like they useto I guess .I just sold my last 550H and it had only 7500 hours on it the origonal cables were just to light now Deere clames that #2 is more than enough and more than they put on the new ones but I think you can get some larger wires in a spec grade size wise and a lighter winde of internal wires[ Quality of manufacturing ] if you know what I mean .If your starter is getting older and taking more draw to turn over then light wires and bad conections will be the first to show .My Deere repair man tells me that long cranking on the starter is good for finding weak spots in starter and main wires also .Digitup.
