Crapppppp!
58 440 ic now has popping noise in trans then started jumping out of gear and loud gear noise in all gears. Took top cover off and can see front bearing gone from rear transmission output shaft which is also pinion gear. are these tough to get apart? are bearings hard to get? should I blow the thing up? scrap her out? Please advise
Unfortunately, the only way to fix a tranny on one of these is to tear the crawler down to the transmission. You can pull the finals and transmission out the back, it is kind of a pain, but it works. At that you still have to pull the finals off to rebuild the transmission itself.
I guess it depens on how much you like the crawler, and if you are inclined to do the work. That's a bummer.
