Diesel needs to run hot for top efficiency, a bit more-so than a gas engine.

My 1010 gas crawler has always run hot when being worked. I re-cored the radiator, rebuilt the engine, and have a 160 F thermostat in it. It still runs a little over 200F whenever it's being worked. If I stop and let the engine fast-idle for a little while, it cools right down to the 170 F range. I've been using it for years, mid-summer and never had an overheating or damage problem.

For the reverser, any good combination trans/hydraulic oil is fine. Just look at the spec label, regardless of brand, and make sure it's a certified equivalent to Deere 303 or Hyguard - and you'll be fine.

my will run in the upper range as well, you have to take it easy with the ole girl, they don't have a ton of power thats for sure.
I ran a 650 jd over the summer and that dozer can sure put work out.
it took me two days to understand it could take a full push all day long and be perfectly happy.
I went back to the 1010 and kept bogging it down...taking too much of a bite for it.
the only good point about these old machines is they don't cost $100000!!!

Mine runs to 200 or so also and when the thermostat kicks it drops to 180. One thing Ive really noticed, especially when working in the woods is that you have to keep up on the radiator cleaning. Mine can get half blocked in 2 days of brush clearing and tree tipping.
