hello im a new member with a 450c in need of some parts

Post by cow50boy » Thu Jan 08, 2009 6:12 pm

just wanted to say the site is very informative, and i wish i found it earler on when i first got my 450c. i do some clearing with the machine and digging what ever i can. yes the wife yells at me cause she says i spend more time with it than with her.

but I just got a 9300 backhoe attachment for it but i am missing the mounting pins. i was wondering if anybody would know where to get a set. i believe the factory part number is U16055. i was maybe looking for a good used set, maybe new. or some deminsions on them so i might be able to make them. or if any body know where to find good used parts for the attachment. thank you

Hi Cowboy-

Have you checked with Deere for new? They still carry a lot of those kinds of parts for the backhoe attachments- I just got bucket pins for my Model 50 backhoe last year.

Used may be more difficult to find, but there are several tractor/crawler boneyards across the country. I know other people on here could name more boneyards, but the ones I know include CrawlerHeaven (NY), Robertson Tractor (OH), Zimmerman Tractor (MO), and General Gear and Machine (ID).
(1) JD Straight 450 crawler dozer with manual outside blade; (2) JD 2010 diesel crawler loaders; (1) JD 2010 diesel dozer with hydraulic 6-way blade; (2) Model 50 backhoe attachments, misc. other construction equipment

thanks tiger for the info, i made a couple of calls to the places you told me. some said they will get back to me and a couple said no used,

if any one could tell me if the pins are 1 1/2" by 5 1/2" long. one place i called told me that. i was going to check at a local machine shop to see if they had some hardened steel round stock.

thanks again for the reply. any info always helps

Those dimentions are correct - except you have to machine a taper at both ends, and drill and tap. Also need the tapered crimp-caps at each end when you install. Buying from Deere costs a fortune. I just did a search for a customer last month and found the set (pin and two caps) used for $30. Would of been around $200 from Deere.

If you can't find used, you can buy oil or water-hardening stock by the inch and make the pin yourself. But, making those end-caps would be tough. Look around and you'll probably find used. I didn't have any trouble.

One note. The oil-hardened, or water-hardened 1 1/2" stock is the same material that the pins from Deere are made of (1045 steel). Problem is, most suppliers require you to buy long lengths. But, there are a few now on the Net that will sell small pieces by the inch.

correction . . .

I "mispoke." I was thinking of some other pins. No taper-crimp caps on the those specific pins. No tapping either. Just get the metal round-stock, taper one end to make it self-aligning for easier installation, and drill a hole for a lock-pin.

You can buy the correct 1045 round stock for $1.10 per inch at:

9300 Backhoe to 450C hook-up

Post by chicken » Sun Jan 11, 2009 3:57 pm

Hi . I also have a 450c which I just bought a 9300 backhoe for . My crawler loader was not set up to take the backhoe so I am having trouble hooking up the hyd. I got the mount and pins with the backhoe so that is no problem. Any help would be appreciated.I have a JD parts manual but I do not understand the plumbing. Ken

thanks jdemaris for the help on the type of metal for the pins, i went to a local machine shop and they sold me hardened round stock, it only cost me 20 dollars for both cut. the only thing i have to do is drill the holes, but the shop said they will do it if i dont want to try because of the hardness. it will cost a dollar a hole.
thats alot better than $125 a pin, oh yea and they are tapered pins already.

ken i agree the manuals are a little confusing on where the hyd are located. i have the service and parts manuals, if you tell me what lines i could look on my machine and try to tell you where they go. i could poss take some pictures. just let me know.

thanks for the info again
