winter project?
Hello. Curious if anyone here has heard rumor of a john deere 6 cyl diesel that matches up to a chevy bellhousing? I have been told there was a deere combine around late 70's offered in either gas or diesel and will mate up. I would love to find out which model combine and series of engine and begin my search! Any ideas? Thanks

John deere built the engine for a GMC grain truck back in the 70's or 80's, i saw the advert someone posted not sure if it was here or on another site, if you search through here you might find it. As far as being bolt able to a tranny that i can not verify but if the truck had a gmc tranny then the bellhousing maybe all you need. Good luck and post if you find it.

I think I read about this proceedure in green magazine a couple years ago . The engine was out of a 4230. One would need to examine prints of engine vs. transmission to make sure. the article never really said what kind of transmission they used. I've seen it done with a IH and a deutz engine bothwere "OK" but not really what a person is used to. The govenor gets in the way. But I'm sure it would be a lot of fun doing it. I measured and made adapters between engine and tranny for the guys I mentioned

hello swawpy, i see u are trying to do the same thing i am . back in the late 80s Deere teamed up with GM and offered a 6359T motor in the GMC 7000 and chevy C70. two cylinder posted a brochure a year or so ago on it and said not many were built. i picked up a 6329T that i plan on installing in a chevy 1 ton this winter. john deere made several bell housings for the 300 series motor, but i havent been able to find one yet that matches the gm bolt pattern. i have a machinist friend that is going to make me an adapter plate for mine when i get going on it.

Hi Swawpy, still trying to find a 1ton chevy or gmc, didnt think it would be this hard. i have been doing some research, according to one of my parts guys a head off a 414 will bolt on the 6329 and am trying to find someone to teach me some stuff about intercoolers. also i picked up a allison 4spd out of a C50 that will bolt up easier than a turbo 400. will try to get some pics this week of what i have so far. i can start just as soon as i find a truck, but VT isnt known for its rust free trucks .

FYI, I bought a 1987 GMC 7000 grain truck this fall. The reason I mention this is that I now have the factory service and unit repair manuals for that truck. There were 5 or 6 different engines and transmissions manufactured for that truck. If you need any specs posted, let me know.JD430C wrote:hello swawpy, i see u are trying to do the same thing i am . back in the late 80s Deere teamed up with GM and offered a 6359T motor in the GMC 7000 and chevy C70.

Are you sure this is a late 80's truck, and not an early 70's truck? The only ones I have ever heard of were the 68-72 vintage Chevy, like a C60, C70 with a 404T in them.
At any rate, I seriously doubt that any Deere engine ever was the same bolt pattern as a GM bellhousing. Even the ones in the 70's would have been a stock 404T, and then they cast a bellhousing to bolt to the Deere engine, and the Chevy transmission. The thing you would need to find is the bellhousing, not the engine.
