What is the difference in a JD 350C and 350B
What is the difference in a JD 350C and 350B
I am looking for a small dozer to use here on the farm, I have found interest in the John Deere. Can anyone shed some light on the difference in models C,B and D? The dozer I am looking at is a 79 350 C.
Others will be able to give more specifics on this, but I think there is a bigger difference in features between the "B" and "C/D" models than between the "C" and "D" models.
The primary differences that I know of between the "C/D" versus "B" models include the use of "wet" versus "dry" steering clutches and turbo versus non-turbo engines. If you do a search of the board you can pull up additional info (use 350 versus 450 as a search term).
**EDIT** Here are some helpful discussions:

(1) JD Straight 450 crawler dozer with manual outside blade; (2) JD 2010 diesel crawler loaders; (1) JD 2010 diesel dozer with hydraulic 6-way blade; (2) Model 50 backhoe attachments, misc. other construction equipment
I think the 350 Cs and Ds have no clutch just a dumper valve on the forward and reverse multiplate clutch or direction reverser .I have a 350D in wide track I had a c series great little machines the only reason for tradeing up was I got a lot less hour machine .I would highly recomend either in wide track if you need the option or even if you don't need the wide tracks with the up grades the Cs and Ds are a lot better built for banging back and forth but still take it easy that old Deere will last a long time when ran with some care .That is my smallest dozer and I only run it my self {it is also the only dozer I have in the work fleet without air conditioning }they are a good little unit that is able to get into small places and easy to get around all it takes is a 3/4 ton truck and 6 ton float .check the bolts in the frame and bell housing although they have a better tougher design than the 350s and the 350Bas the bigest change as far as I am conserned was the B to C upgrade. there are other small things like more H.P.& cubic inch in engine all along and more user friendly controls through the shifter valving in later units .Digitup.

There are many small differences all along the way, from the first 350 on up to the 350D series. Too many to list. Engines grew (if diesel) from 152 to 164 to 179. A 135 gas, or 152, 164, or 179 diesel will bolt into any of them so you have to check and see if the engine is original or not.jmw_1768 wrote:I am looking for a small dozer to use here on the farm, I have found interest in the John Deere. Early 350s had track frames that attached a little different than later 350s.
Biggest change is with the 350C series and the use of hydraulically powered and wet steering clutches. Also, some big changes in the reverser drive along the way (at the flywheel). Early 350 used a clutch disk like the older 1010s did. Then later 350s used an awful spring/hooks/plate setup that was problematic up to the 350D series. The Ds have a much better setup.
They all work pretty much the same in regard to pushing power. No major differences, unlike the 450s. A 450B or C turbo will push circles around a first model 450 with a NA 202 engine.
A 350D dozer weighs 10,700 lbs and has a 179 engine with 48 SAE horsepower.
A 350C dozer weighs 10,600 lbs. and has either a 164 engine and 42 SAE horsepower or a 152 with 42 SAE horsepower.
A 350B dozer wieghs 10,600 lbs. and has a 152 engine with 42 SAE horsepower.
A 350 has the same basic specs as the later 350B.

Guys thanks for the information, this is a really cool site with a lot of good information from people with experiance. I should have my 350 at my place on Friday of this week.
I am sure I will have many more questions comming real soon. Is there anything I should check are look far before operating my new machine?
