I just got a 1010 Gas crawler. It starts and runs fine, but does not charge. When I got it, it was hooked up negative ground, and the wiring has been played with. I think the generator may be bad, when the engine is running, a voltage meter says 0 or .04 on ether generator terminal. And I am not sure if the voltage regulator is hooked up properly. I attached some pictures, any help would be appreciated. Does anyone have a wiring diagram for this machine?

And one more thing. I think the engine is leaking oil and smoking from this pipe on the right side of the engine. Is this an engine vent? It’s hard to see where the oil is coming from, the hydraulic reservoir is in the way, and looks difficult to move.

My guess would be that you will need to have the generator checked out/rebuilt, put on a new regulator, change the polarity back to positive ground, and correct any wiring errors. If you are not concerned about originality, you can leave it negative ground, and install a one wire alternator.

I want to keep it a negative ground. What alternator can I order? Will I need a voltage regulator or anything else with an alternator?

It depends on what aperage you want, I think a 43 amp is about $85. Original generator is 30 amps or less I think. I am out of stock right now, but easy to get more. It is a one wire self-energizing alternator. All you need to run is one wire to the battery, or the amp gauge if you want to do it that way.

43 amp is fine. That sounds easy enough to hook up. Lavoy can I order it from you? Or can I get it at a auto parts store or something? And did you see that picture of the engine smoke?

I can get you one, check locally first to see what they have, they are getting pretty common.
Don't think I saw the pic, which one?

I ordered this "12 volt 63amp Delco 10SI negative ground alternator with a self-energizing,one-wire regulator" from here:

Lavoy, when the engine is running, it looks like it leaks oil and the oil burns and smokes, I think from this tube on the right side of the engine. I think its a crank vent?

Yes, sorry, spaced that one off. Yes, that is the crankcase vent, at least some blowby is normal.
