Track frame attachment on 440IC

Hi, Does anyone know how much clearance there is around the crossbars where they mate to the track frame. As near as I can tell there is about 0.150" clearance around the front cross bar...Should I get the bar built up or make a bushing to fit? On the rear where the cross bar goes into the track frame how much clearance should there be? I am thinking they should be tight but I don't want to run into any adjustment problems. Thinking about getting linebored to line everything up. This is the later model serial #448915 with the clamps on the back cross bar to hold it together

there are rubber sleeves or bushings that fill that gap.

I have heated them with a rosebud until they glowed; beat on them with a 20 pound sledge; poured on bottles of penetrating oil; and still I have some that refuse to separate - my analysis is that they are a tight fit.

There should be very little clearance, I don't know what the correct measurement would be, but not as much as you have. Check the crossbar for out of round as well as the trackframe itself.

ya now i am wondering the same as i have pulled my track frames off and doing some alignment and repair.
i was able to get them off with out much difficulty,,, i didn't have to swear at it.
i see the round bar is worn at the outer ends where the parts mate,
what have other guys done to fix this?javascript:emoticon(':?:')

i noticed that because of the slop at the "t"s , the track frame actually pivots in the front mount(where the rubber sleeve fits to the inner frame)... on my 440 the front bar outer plates were snapped loose(broken welds)maybe the rubber needs some grease,, glad i didn't get it on a sidehill...might have lost the whole trackframe if i tried.

here are the measurements on mine,
rear bar ends ~3.362 dia. but worn where mating to spring"t" to 3.230
the "t"s now measure 3.480 to almost 3.5 for a total difference of 1/4" and just for fun it weighs 162#

front bar ends are anywhere from 2.630 to 2.720 and egg-shaped and the front track frame holes are 2.790 up to 2.860, also egged-shape. total difference of almost 1/4",,,,
and weighs in at ~80#

so plenty of slop here, but at least its a dry slop,

hey pop pop, I have since finished putting mine together and the only rubber bushings that I know of are the ones on the front crossbar under the main frame rails. I went and rebuilt the whole trackframe by getting them linebored and bushings pressed in at the back and in the front. In the front, where the top roller mounts I had it made so that it was a nice snug fit and in the rear I had left a nice sliding fit and put in lots of grease so there was a little movement for rotation. This seems to have worked very well for me. As soon as I figure out how to post images I want to put up pictures of the whole rebuild including the trackframe. [/img]
