Hello...Need help again..I just had the engine rebuilt on the 350B by a local mechanic (replaced Water pump, #1 lining, piston, rod, valves)..starts right away, runs but has a knock and white smoke out the exhaust...after reading, I suspect timing of injector pump was causing this. I made a window to fit over the RoosaMaster timing hole and started the engine... all I saw was the timing mark on the pump side. No Mark on the left gear side at all...Could he have reinstalled the pump and Gear 180 degrees out of line? Would the engine even run if that was the case?
Thank you all again....ron

350B injector pump timing
PEACE!
Re: 350B injector pump timing
Maybe somebody worked on the injection pump and did not install that timing mark? The governor weight-cage has that timing mark on it and often needs replacement. The new one comes out of the box blank. You are supposed to look up the pump model number, find out what degrees to put the mark at, lay the cage on a degree chart, and etch the timing mark on. Sounds like somebody took a shortcut?coehillbilly wrote:Hello...Need help again..I just had the engine rebuilt on the 350B by a local mechanic (replaced Water pump, #1 lining, piston, rod, valves)..starts right away, runs but has a knock and white smoke out the exhaust...after reading, I suspect timing of injector pump was causing this. Yes, but remember it is a four-stroke-cycle engine and there are two TDCS. One on the exhaust stroke, and the other on the compression stroke. The injection pump only turns at 1/2 engine speed, so the timing mark will only appear when the engine is at TDC of the compression stroke.coehillbilly wrote:Thank you for your reply. So do I find #1 Cyl TDC using the hole in the flywheel and then see if the timing mark is still in the window? Should it be there using this method?
