440IC Transmission fluid change

Post by charless » Tue Sep 01, 2009 1:38 pm

Can someone tell me where the transmission filler and drain locations are? Do I have to take off footrests or the skidplate to access them? Also, is there a dip stick or other mechanism to determine the level of lubricant in the tranny?

It depends on serial number. Early crawlers fill under your RH heel, drain is under the belly, kind of under the LH footrest. Late crawler has fill just ahead of PTO lever, drain is the same as early. Early crawler is filled to edge of fill hole, late crawler has a dipstick.

440IC Transmission fluid change

THX for the information Lavoy. The serial number for my 440ic is 442495 so my tranny drain would be on the belly more or less under the left footrest area and the fill port would be under the right footrest if I understood your reply correctly. Do you normally have to remove the right footrest to fill the transmission? What type of lubricant is recommended and how often should it be changed? THX MUCH for your help.

No, fill plug should be back basically at you RH heel, so should not have to remove footrest. Use gear lube like 80W-90, or whatever you prefer, about 10 quarts I think.
