I bought a rebuilt fuel pump, i put it back on and the shaft seal keeps getting turned over and then leaks fuel into the crankcase. Is there any tricks to doing this? i have a tool from the pump place that i bought for this , I put lots of lub on the shaft but dosen,t seem to help. Thanks for any info you can give me. Bob

Ken, I have a diesel model, and its a db pump. I have a manual but when i took it off i pulled the pump and not the shaft so l,am installing the two seals on that shaft. the front one won,t side all the way in without turning over alittle. I thought about pulling the shaft out and taking it with the pump back to the shop and have them put it in but seems like a lot of work to remove the shaft? And the shops 150 miles away. Thanks alot for your reply, Bob
Find Jdemaris either on this board on on the YT board, and he can answer any specific questions you have- he is the "Pump Master"

i just did this on mine....i used the special tool...it isn't anything "special" but i did the job in under an hour...
if you can go to jdemarris' picture storage website- i found it and saved a bunch of shots- it will show you the tool...
i took pics to finish my tech thread on how to do this job, but they are at home right now...
edit: i'll see if i can post a pic....the tool is the upper left hand corner.....nothing fancy but it has a bevel on it and a notch cut in to it to allow you to get the seals as deep in to the bearing before letting go with the tool...
i was surprised at how hard it was to push the injector pump back on with new seals and a new bushing....i lubed them up with some wd40 ...to help...
i need to update my original thread, it's on the first or second page...not much help to you until i update it....even though i only took a couple of pics of putting the injector pump back on the dozer.....i got involved and forgot to use the camera....and, my hands were greasy.....
and, i found an actual pic of it being used....this is all from jdemarris' picture account i found while i was stalking him to pick his brain....

BVD,
I just posted a bunch of pictures of when I replaced the governor weight retainer in my JDB (much like the DB) pump. There is a picture of how I got the pump back on WITHOUT the tool. I cut a piece of clear plastic that was thick enough to be stiff but thin enough to easily wrap around the seals and shaft. LOTS of lubriplate (everywhere by the time I got done) but it worked.
