1010 tranny questions HELP!!
I was using my 1010 diesel last weekend to build a pond when I started to sink in and got a little stuck. Not a big deal, I figured I could just winch myself out but when I went to engage the P.T.O., I couldn't move the lever. I was able to get unstuck by lifting the front with the blade and putting a couple logs under the tracks but now I noticed that 3rd gear won't stay engaged and if I push the gearsfift a little harder, the P.T.O. lever moves on its own but still won't egagae. Any thoughts to where to start on the repairs? I am thinking it must be a bearing in the tranny but I have never worked on these trannys and don't know where to start. any advice???
After a few hours of work, I kind of figured out the problem but not really sure of the cause. The p.t.o. shift fork went way over center and pushed the engagement coupling over and was hitting the 3rd gear. I took a small prybar and flipped it back to where it belongs and everything works again. I know the p.t.o shift lever was not in the proper posisition since it was welded to the shaft but I didn't think a lot of it since it all worked ok. I am hoping I just kicked the lever and overcentered it but I am not sure. Thanks Lavoy for the fast replies Looks like I may have dodged a bullet and don't have to tear it all apart. Or I just delayed the inevitable. probably the later.
