Heller Trencher in action
Heller Trencher in action
Hopefully this work, turn down your sound, too many people talking occasionally. A friend who was there shot this and sent it to me last night.

Lavoy,
Many thanks for honoring the request to see video of the Heller in action.
I was waiting for it to back up in to one of the trenches but I guess that "function" has now been disabled.

There was 3" of rain last week, so ground was a little stickier than I would have liked, hence so much dirt coming back over in the buckets. 4th gear, high range is 13' 8" per minute, I was digging in 2nd most of the time in the video. Even though it appears slow, it would obviously outdig a backhoe at the same width and depth. If it ever dries out here, we might run some tile with it on one headland of a wet field.
The reverse function of the loose nut on the seat has been disabled, yes.

Neat video!! Looks like you had quite a few supervisors too
When I was a kid, there were huge machines like that that buried the 24" cement pipe lines on our farm. Only dug 4' down, not a frost area and well below plows and rippers.
I dug a 250' ditch with a backhoe this spring. Certainly not that fast, but I had many rocks to deal with!! You have no idea how much I'd love that much flat land without rocks

My ground has lots of rocks in places, including that flint rock that the indians made arrow heads and tools out of.
I guess we convert it to rock buckets and start digging?

seems like you need to slow the buckets a bit, or your forward movement. Your throwing dirt back in the trench. Bring it to Maine I will be happy to swap you!

This was posted by Lavoy on an earlier post explaining the dirt coming back in the trench.

Yes I read that, yet I noticed when he dropped it to idle the buckets were coming out clean. Perhaps too much bucket speed, not so much wetness?

Yea, I noticed that too. Not sure of the recommended speeds, I have never seen one of these in operating condition.
