Sorry Digger, I don't know about removing the spider. Have you removed any more gunk/parts yet? I spent quite a bit of time with scrapers of all sorts and compressed air getting the inside of mine clean. I didn't need to go as deep into repairing it as you are. I did free up all the adjustments, and retaining screws, replaced the adjusting cap screws and their wires and chased the threads. I used high temp never-seize on all the threads then cleaned up the excess. I'm still in the market to one-day reline the brake band and clutch band, but they still work reasonably well and I've adjusted to the occasional quirks that my winch has. Good luck; at least this is a small piece and you can bring it inside to work on it :-) Paul
