Hello All
I have a friend that bought a 555a a few years back to help clear his property to build a house. Initially when he bought it, the right steering didn't work, but it engaged fine. All the fluids and filters were changed initially and at regular intervals since then. The only fluid that was slightly milky was the tranny. The center brake pedal spring is broke, so you have to pull it back anytime it's used.
Now both sides aren't engaging when the gears are changed. As long as you leave it in 1st gear it's ok. When you change it from 1 > 2 or 2>3 and back it'll just sit there and try to engage but act like it's slipping badly. Once it's back in 1st and it sits for a few minutes, it'll engage and start moving again. It does this warm or cold.
I've helped him with the fluid changeouts and tried to adjust the right brake band according to the factory spec. But either it's stuck or at the end of it's adjustment, because it wouldn't move (using the small access hole on the side).
Any diagnosis help would be appreciated.
Thanks
555A possible bad tranny or ?
Deere uses a aluminum piston and a o ring to seal the pressure plate in the clutch pack your piston and sleave assembly is woren completly out on both if you keep running the crawler you will take the friction plates and steel plates out from over heating .When you got it apart lube and adjust the steering properly .Digitup.
555a
Thanks for the advice digit.
Once I help him get into the tear down, I'll post what we found.
Is there anything else I should be looking at whilst I have the finals torn apart ? Well besides bearings, seals, etc.
Thanks

Pull the clutch packs apart and check the clutches and plates by setting them on a good flatsurfice or holding a flat edge to them they should be flat if they are slightly over heated they warp and will not lay level so replace them if they are good it is up to you and your pocket book for replacing them check both the plates and the friction plates for over heating when the motor is out check the torque converter seal and probably replace it reinsitall with converter on motor and use a vasilene or greese to lube pump drive so the seal installs nicely watch for leaking seals and replace them good luck and feel free to ask questions .Digitup.
