420C Zenith Carb Kit
420C Zenith Carb Kit
So I didn't bother to check what kind of carb was on my 420c before I took it apart so the kit for a marvel carb doesn't work. Duh.
I looked around the internet and I don't see anyone with a carb kit for the Zenith that's on my crawler (well, on my bench now). I am not sure what the model number is to even ask the local parts guys.
Any ideas?

To my knowledge, the JD440 was never sold with a Zenith carburetor. The one you have could have been taken from anywhere - John Deere or otherwise. If you are lucky, there may still be an identification disc riveted to the top of the float bowl cover, which has assembly numbers on it. Gil

Hi: I found this link to the MS-Zenith Carb manual that I have found useful. Scroll down to find the Zenith section. Paul

Certain Zenith carbs were used on the Ford Model A's. Post a picture so i can see what you have.
If it is a Model A Zenith, than there are plenty of places to get them fixed, rebuild or parts. My brother in Texas has a club member that specializes in Zenith carbs.
It sounds to me like someone added the Zenith carb because that is what they had lying around.

I have also found everything I've needed through "Robert's". I bought the set of special drill bits for the air passages and finally curred a hiccup and idle roughness problem I battled for years...highly recommended. I have always used mig wire and torch tip cleaners to poke through the passages and blow out, figured they were clean right? Finally broke down and bought the drill bits...hard to believe- but what a difference...never idled so smooth!
Old Zenith Carb
This is Pammark's brother down in Texas. I looked at the picture you posted and it is not any of the 24 different carbs that were used on the 1928 thru 1931 Ford Model A. You would think that Henry Ford had a better idea after going through 24 different models in just 4 years. Those old Zenith carbs were built in France and had metric threads inside. So when anybody asks when American cars started using metric parts...in was way back in 1928.

On a related note
Now that I cannot just buy carb dipping stuff, what's the best way to get this carb all cleaned up, brushes and tiny drill bits and lots of elbow grease?
Whiy can you not buy carb dipping stuff? I just bought a gallon of Berrymans from Parts Plus for a problem I have with a 17 hp. Kawasaki in a John Deere 260 riding mower. Ma Deere only wanted $89+ for a kit to fit all the carbs used on a FC540V Kawa.
I am going to send the carb from my 440IC to Motec Eng. for rebuild (the main jet is AFU and stripped in the carb).
