420c: was showing Dad where the gears were with tractor stopped, engine off. When I fired her up (with clutch in), all sounded well until i took foot off clutch and leaped forward in 3rd. Quick check showed Im stuck in 3rd gear, shifter moves freely but wont engage any other gear. Am about to take shifter cover off. Any thoughts on what this might be? Thanks.

Pull the shifter out first, it most likely jumped out of it's place. Pulling the top cover may not help you.
