1010 Special Grease Gun/Zerks
Still playing with my new 1010 on this beautiful Canadian holiday long-weekend. Have sat sown and read through the Operator's manual and the Parts Catalog that I have for the 1010. As I was inspecting the rollers and idler I see that they have special (or new to my knowledge) grease zerks, as does the hydraulically adjusted tensioner. I read some previous posts regarding the no-longer-available low-pressure grease gun, but does anyone know where to get a head to fit these grease zerks? I have never seen them before. I also removed my seat frame to access the steering and brake adjustment. My Op manual shows a different style of ball joint adjuster than I have. The manual shows one with an adjustable hex shaft and 2 jam nuts. Mine has only one jam nut and some sort of external spring shaft for adjustment. I don't see any way to fit a wrench on it for adjustment. Any info? Thanks!

You can dig if you have time to find a grease fitting for the rollers... I did once but they were stuck anyways. I unscrewed those and put ordinary zerks. You can also screw directly the hose of the grease gun in and cap the hole with a hex npt plug when done, so it does not break or get dirty over time.

Thanks for this info. I unscrewed the one on my track tensioner and it looked a bit bigger than the regular thread on the end of a grease gun, but I will give it a try. As far as digging, this dozer must not have seen much action in the mud (that might explain the lack of wear to the UC) because I can see each grease zerk on the rollers and idler and was even able to push the ball in on each one with a pick. As far as my track tensioners go, I either need to replace them with a new style zerk or find a fitting for the end of my gun. Thanks again!

the type of zerks are called button zerks and most any good parts store can get them and gun end to. I just bought both and a low pressure oil gun for my 2010 works greatYou can put reg.zerks on the adjusters as they take reg. grease.Two reasons for the button type zerks are they dont damage as easy and so some grease monkey did not use a reg. grease gun on the rollers and blow the seals out

Thanks again for the info. I think I will leave the button-type fittings on there as they do seem very heavy-duty in comparison to regular ones. I will take it easy on the pressure. I am still trying to secure a service manual for the machine. Thanks again!

Lavoy, I'm not getting your description well enough. If I slide the spring back, do I pry the end off the ball joint, or the cap off the adjuster? The one side looks like it is missing the cap off the adjuster, but there is what seems to be a snap ring that keeps the spring on. Once I get it freed up, does the shaft just turn by hand, or how do you gain adjustment? Thanks, sorry for not understanding what is probably a very simple task!

On the spring loaded end, when you slide the "cap" or whatever you want to call it back, you lift the "socket" up off of the ball. The ball will have pressure on it, so you will have to pry on the arm that the ball goes into to relieve the pressure. Back off the jam nut, and shorten or lengthen the linkage as necessary.
