Identify the Dozer
Identify the Dozer
I suspect that this is a JD350, but where can I find the serial number plate to find out for sure? What is this dozer worth? A friend is going to sell it. It is located in the Dallas/ Fort Worth area.

Model Identification
You are going to need to look under the seat. Are the steering clutch:
1. Valve on top of the transmission - 350C
2. Small hydraulic cylinders (power steering) - 350B or 350
3. Directly to steering clutch housings - 350
My guess would be an early 350C (no reverse in tranny and 350C tach).
I always check under the seat to identify as there is a big difference in value on the different models.
Undercarriage looks good. Someone has made a wide track out of this unit buy buying oversize pads and cutting a portion off the inside of the pads. May cause excessive track wear. But tracks do look decent based on the position of the idler. Best to familiarize yourself with undercarriage before making an offer as it is the most expense wear item on a crawler.

I'm sure this is a very early 350C. First thing I noticed is the Tachometer, that's for sure a 350C Tach. Then, if you look closely at the second picture you can make out the three "Brake Anchor bolts" again only a C or a D would have those. The track pads are kind of scarey! I guess if you are in soft or wet ground they would be okay. They wouldn't work here in my rocks but that is minor. Look closely at the rails, pins and bushings. The undercarriage in general. The old girl looks pretty good from the pictures but I would really look it over. One in excellent shape here in Missouri will bring as much as 10,000 but one like this would be more like 6000 to 8000 depending on undercarriage.

If its a C, then either the fuel filter base or the engine has been swapped. As far as i know all the Cs used the single glass filter. On the final drives, the overall shape is different from a B to a C, this one looks like a C, and i think you can just make out some of the anchor bolts but its tough to say with these pics. It would be nice to see further under the seat to see if the steering clutch control valve is there or not, again you really cant see clearly from these pics.
On another note, maybe we should post a topic in the FAQs about identifying a C model 350, it seems to be coming up allot lately.

Ken thats the nice part about this site, most everyone on here is trying to help each other out. Also, you know my debacle with my blade dozer , I always figured whatever the transmission case is, is what the machine is. They have the serial number stamped on the rear of the case, and it's where you build the machine off of.
Ken P, I like the way you think! We should run for congress! We could start our own party known as the "Deere Party" and have this 350 as our mascot. That is of course depending on whether we ever fully determine what it is... is it a B or a C. My son responded to this by saying we should just call it a 350X sense it seems to have a certain mystic about it. As far as your mixture of parts, you had my head spinning as well!! I don't even want to think about what it would take to conceive a D! That really does make my head hurt!

Well... The valve, to me is in the dark. I can't see it. But then I'm half blind so my wife tells me! However, from what I can see, the round access plugs for the brake adjustment is definitely a 350C. Also the steering linkage that you can see, also indicates to me that it is a 350C. Most likely a very early C model. Another point that was brought out in one of the other posts. One picture shows a dual CAV style fuel filter system. I agree with the other post that most C models had a square, glass stanadyne fuel filter. I'm not sure about this other than what the other post suggested, of it being either a switched engine, from a straight 350 or a 350B. Or maybe someone preferred this style system over the other. But to me there is no doubt that at least the back end of this machine is a 350C.
