Question About Rear-Mounted Cessna Pump on 2010 Loader

Good morning-

Last weekend I damaged the bottom part of the rear cover on my H-L-R transmission- I am going to have to replace the cover as I am losing the Hytrans all over the ground.

I am trying to find out if there is a gasket between that cover and the rear-mounted Cessna pump for the loader hydraulics. I did find the part number for the gasket for the rear transmission cover to case, but not between the pump and cover. As best as I can tell from the parts manuals, there is an access port between the pump and the cover to allow the pump to run off of the transmission. However I can't find a gasket there in either the crawler parts book or the loader parts book Is there a gasket?

Also would I install those gaskets dry or should I use some type of sealant?

i dont belive there is a gasket on the pump on the cover i replaced mine ( someone before me pushed the crawler with a fork lift on/in the cover) i used spray ....hy-tach by permatex....on the cover gasket
2010 with 622 dozer with mod. 35 ripper and a 2010 with 622 dozer bought in 1969 and a 2010 loader with drott and mod. 36 ripper

Thanks- I did a little checking in the parts manual again today and it appears there is a gasket on the pump support to cover rather than the pump to pump support. I found it in the section for "Auxillary Pump Shifter" ,(key ID 17, page 99 of PC-0728). I'm guessing if the pump support is already on the cover, I wouldn't need to replace it or the packing (key ID 21).

I noticed the lever for the pump shifter yesterday when looking at the cover- is the lever to disconnect flow to the pump? When would it be used, considering the loader hydraulic system is open center?

I believe that lever is used to disengage for a really cold start - or so I have been told.

that lever disconects the pump completly.... i would say it would be for very cold start as said above but i would think you would have to shut it back off to engage the pump or the dog clutch might beable to take the non turning pump?

Thanks Richard- I was curious because the HLR already has a disconnect for cold starting. I don't think I will try it because my luck the darn lever would break off :lol:

on a HLR that would be true...... i have two dozers both with HLR and no rear pump and they still have the pump disconncet levers go figure

When you said that you used the Hy-Tach, did you mean in lieu of the cover gasket or in addition to it? The reason I ask is my local JD industrial dealer is telling me that the rear cover gasket (T 15031 T) is obsolete so was wondering if you found an alternate source.

Hi: If you haven't used Richard's trick, You place the thin cardboard over the part and use the hammer to define the inner and outer shapes by tapping on the card stock at an angle. Sometimes you can tap hard enough to actually cut out the gasket - use your judgement; you may want to do the final cut with a drywall/Exacto knife or scissors rather than risk dinging the part. The Hi-tack (I use Permatex #2) just holds the gasket in place during assembly and puts a slight cushion on both sides of the gasket for the initial seal. The oil soaks into and expands the paper - job done. Don't over- torque. Fine tune as needed. Other's may use other techniques. Good luck, Paul

and you use the ball of the hammer and another hammer you put the ball on where the bolt hole is and take the other hammer and hit it and you have a perfect hole ....and paul is corect about oil and paper like on water pump or t-stat gaskets i only use grease on them both sides they dont leak and when you take them off years later its like you put them together yesterday

Great tip- I was worried a little about sealing in that area because the lower portion of the cover appears to be continually submerged from the transmission sump.

The Permatex #2 is non-hardening, so I was wondering about using it to seal against fluids like Hytrans but it does seem to work great when I use it for head bolts on auto engines. It sounds like this technique relies more on the swelling of the paper gasket anyhow.

Well, I got lucky it seems. The parts man at my local industrial Deere dealer apparently found one of each gaskets through his last-chance suppliers. I think I will take the time to trace the rear cover gasket on cardstock so I don't have to trace the pan later if I need another one.
