JD 350 front idler repair

I have OEM idlers on my 350, they are worn. From reading some of the past messages, sounds like I can rebuild them. Are they cast steel? What kind of rod? Is it nessary to preheat? Do they make aftermarket? Any sources out there? From Wisconsin.
Lots of questions I know..New to 350's and trying to fix what someone else covered with paint.

Hello !

I have the same problem with my idler on my 350 , I've been told that the CASTED idler can't be recharged because they will break due to the fact they are casted , but I've read that the ones form other vendors are steel one and can be recharged .

I'm glad you posted that Tigerhaze! Sometimes I wonder if people are paying attention to whats already been said.... several times!... and not long ago!!

And on this note... The way I see it, Weld the "Blanking things up" Use some 7018 rod and see what happens. If the Idlers are junk then what is there to loose other than a junk idler! Go for it!!!

Rebuilding undercarriage and idlers are borderline..looking for new but seem hard to find..

back in the day (which was a Tues. i believe ) it was common to weld up all the rollers....... that was before all the after market parts now that the machines are older and not many parts out there it looks like old-school ways are coming back weld them up!!!!!

It's really not a problem to make a new post if you can't reply to an old one, but just wanted to let you know that we have discussed previously so there is some good information in the archives.

I know on some boards people get offended if an old post is "resurrected", but I have never seen that on this board and I think it actually makes it easier for others to find relevant information on a topic as we discuss it further
