Dip stick behind left foot when on JD 350 CB?

Post by shanty » Sun Apr 01, 2012 5:35 pm

Thanks for all the help on my question on the spring on the track. It turns out some welded on an extra 1 1/2" to the track tentioner piston.
Next question I have is what is the dip stick bihind your left rear foot when sitting on the machine rear end or reverser? Also what type of oil do we add to this resevoir hyd. or gear? Thanks
(I know your going to say look in the manual but we left it in the tool book and the mice used it for thier winter nest, got a new one ordered but keen to get to the fence bottoms with the machine.)
Great forum keep up the good work!

There are only two dip-sticks in that general area. The one closest to the front is for the reverser and the one further back is for the gear transmission. Reverser takes HyGuard or a generic combo trans-hydraulic oil. Trans can take 90W GL5 gear oil or HyGuard. My choice is 90W gear oil. You've also got two more oil reservoirs and fills at the bottom of each final drive.

First things first, when you say its a 350CB, are you reading that off of the serial tag? If so, to me at least that indicates its a 350C, diesel loader. Is that correct? If so, as it has been said 100 times on here by now, the transmission, steering clutches/brakes and finals are all one common reservoir. The most critical aspect of this oil on a C is that the clutches and brakes run in this oil. Id stick with hy-gaurd if it is truly a C machine.
