Hydralic Problem

Post by swinemar » Mon Apr 02, 2012 3:09 pm

 My 450b has a hydralic problem, the blade worked fine when the machine was cold, after about 15 mins.of working the hydralics became
very slow and sluggish.so I asumed it was the pump and replaced it with a new one.but O-Know I still have the same problem. When the hydralics get slow, I shut the machine down for 30 seconds, stat it up and the hydalics work fine for another 10 mins.I,m totally confused.
Any sugestions or comments appreciated :?

Did you check the two hydraulic filters? If you've got the wire suction filter at the bottom of the tank (where you can't see it) -it's probably plugged shut.
The 450B crawler-loaders have it but I don't remember if the dozes have it or not.

Found a clogged filter

Post by swinemar » Tue Apr 03, 2012 1:29 pm

I checked inside the tank and found a filter attached to the tank cover when i removed it, it was clogged. Is there another filter in the bottom of the tank? I also replaced the hydralic filter in front of the radiator. Thanks For the info : jdemaris

Most 450B dozers and loaders have a second filter at the bottom of the hydraulic tank, under the oil where you cannot see it. It's held in by a spring clamp. You can reach into the oil and remove it - or drain the tank first. It's a wire mesh filer made to be cleaned and re-used. Deere # AU14022 . This wire filter is the "suction" filter and all oil must pass through it before it gets to the pump. The filter on top that you found is the "return" filter and filters oil after the pump when returning to the tank.

My 1960 1010 crawler-loader has both filters. The dozer model might only have one.

The top (return) filter is often missing. Either left off - or fell off. The metal spacer often gets lost and without that spacer - the filter cannot be tightened properly and falls off. You can't tighten that long bolt against the filter or it will be crushed. You must have the long metal spacer inside the filter to allow tightening and that spacer if often long gone and lost.
