AM2774T Oil Seal Assembly Tool

Post by foxd » Mon May 21, 2012 1:04 pm

Does anyone have a sketch of this special tool for installing the axle oil seal in a 420 crawler? I am planning to have one made if I can locate a drawing of it. Unless someone has another idea to properly install the new seal?
Thanks - Dave

No other way to do it than the tool.
I don't have a drawing, but I do have the tool.

I was reading some older posts and was thinking of making one out of 2.50" sch 80 pvc as someone else had done. I assume the inside diameter would need to be 2.50" to slide over the axle. What is the outside diameter that slides inside the seal supposed to be? It looks like around 2.59"-2.60" would be close. That would give me a wall thickness of about .045". Also how long is the area of the tool that slides into the seal? Around 1.00"?

ID just has to clear the axle, that is correct. Depth of the part that goes in the seal is an inch or less, just need to be past the lips of the seal.
OD is a small as you can make it, and still be strong enough to work.

Main piece is done & looks good. Thought I might be able to do it without the nose piece, but does not look like it. Will have the nose piece made tomorrow. Thanks!

Tried that once, it is real hard on the seal trying to force it through the lips.
If you didn't already know, make sure to hand pack grease in between all the lips on the seal before installation.
