350 issue
350 issue
Was grading the potholes out of the driveway today with my 350 diesel. Went to park the machine and it sounded kind of funny when I idled it down (Kinda like it had a miss). Shut the key off and the dozer kept running . Turned off the battery kill switch and it kept running. Tried to throttle it up again and it had no throttle with everything shut off. Came inside to read my manual and 3 minutes later I heard the engine putter out and die. Anybody have an idea of what might cause this? Thanks.

try a fuel shut off.
Otherwise if your rings are bad the engine can scavenge the crank case oil as fuel.

The first thing I would check is to see if you have fuel. When these machines run out of fuel they will cause this issue. The other thing I would check is to make sure your fuel filter or filters aren't stopped up.
I'm not sure how these engines do this as I am not an engineer, but they will flutter on as if they are still trying to run. Make sure you have fuel and clear filters. Also check the vent in the fuel tank to be sure in isn't pulling a vacuum in the tank. This can also cause your issue.

40 plus years working on JD 350s, 400Gs, 450s and other equipment both Ag and Construction.
After it shut off on its own, I went out and fired it back up and everything worked fine. I did notice that one of the air bleeds on top of the fuel filter was bubbling and loose. Is it possible that it was sucking air into the fuel causing what sounded like a miss? Also, would this leak be enough to create a vacuum still drawing fuel after shutoff?

A air leak will give it a miss. The air leak would make it easier to shutoff tho.
