Newbie ? "the rite fluid"

Post by WMc » Sun Jul 08, 2012 1:13 pm

I have a 1981 350 JD crawler with a hydrostatic drive/reverser.
'
I changed the fluid in the reverser and the transmission. I used what the JD dealer said to use and I bought the fluid from them.(It was expensive)
'
Now my crawler doesn't seem to have the power it did before "like a clutch is slipping" and now it doesn't what to steer.?
'
Did they sell me the rite fluid?
They sold me JD torq-guard. Is this the rite fluid?
'
Thanks for any help or input.

Hello

If your crawler is a 1981, that would make it a C model 350. If thats the case it should use Hy-Guard oil, which is Deeres hydraulic oil. I think Torque guard is an engine oil. That would work only in the engine on your machine.

I hope they did not this mistake because it could be very expensive:

Torq-Gard™ Engine Oil
John Deere Torq-Gard™ Engine Oil is designed for use in high speed four stroke diesel engines, either naturally aspirated or turbo charged.

Hy-Gard™ Hydraulic and Transmission Oil
John Deere Hy-Gard™ Hydraulic and Transmission Oil provides the absolute best performance and wear protection for John Deere hydraulic and transmission systems.

Do you still have the container to prove which one they sold you?

1959 JD 440ICD w/63 Manual Angle Blade
1959 JD 440IC w/602 Manual Angle Blade
1959 JD 730D W SE (many options)
1950 JD M S w/M-20 Mower

1955 FORD 640 (burns the most fuel)

Ouch! I don't know if you have any legal recourse with them, but if you clearly explained what components you were changing fluid they should have never made that mistake.

Thanks for the feed back.
'
It was HY-Guard oil for the reverser and tranny. My memory fails me.
'
Is this the only fluid that JD offers for hydrostatic reverser and transmission fluid for the year of my crawler? (1981)
'
Every thing seemed fine until I changed the fluid.
'
Thanks again for any help or info.

Oil levels

Post by JWB Contracting » Mon Jul 09, 2012 8:49 pm

It can take a while for the final drives and steering clutches to fill. Re-check your fluid levels. We often put half a pail of oil directly into the couch housings to speed the process.

I am trying to get a copy of my JD filter and fluid's book that shows filter part # and gaskets needed as well as fluids and quantity of fluid needed from dry give me a few days my office has had a major clean up and face lift (I found things I had considered I lost for ever) My two daughters have cleaned up and I found the book I used years ago I had it ready to send to one of the guys and lost the darn thing but the book is found and I will get all crawler pages in the tech area as soon as possible! It was printed in 1983 so none of the new Deere's will be on there.Digitup.
