Looking good, making good progress. I can almost hear that Jimmy screamin. LOL
The wiring harness is so simple once you do it, don't you agree?
They get big bucks for a little bit of wire cut to length with ends on it.

Thanks again for the great comments guys.
2006, yes the wiring isn't bad at all. I studied those diagrams so many times before I started I could almost do it with my eyes closed.
The very confusing part was the ordeal with the regulator. My original regulator had 4 terminals and so does the new replacement.
I went from "L" terminal on VR to "Bat" terminal on key switch.
"ST" on key to starter solenoid. "ING" on key switch to fuse.
Other side of fuse to "Bat" terminal on light/ignition switch.
Really the only reason it was difficult was because I wanted the light switch to be powered through the key, so that when I take it to a show/fair people can't turn the lights on and run the battery dead.
Ordered oil and fuel filters today and got $50 worth of hose and connectors to hopefully make new fuel lines.
I'm having a heck of a time finding someone close to me that sells the DELO100. Would the Rotella be that horrible to run? (Straight 40W of course).

Hey Ben,whiteclipse16 wrote:Mine doesn't have a reverser unfortunately. I think it should just have a plate on the reverser case instead of the cover that it does have, but that's what was on there when I dug it out.
Did you make some progress on bull2? You find anything out about that 440 you saw on the side of the road a while back?
Your crawler will be awesome. What a nice instrument panel!! I'm now on turnaround shift in the mines up north. 21 days of work / 14 home. While I'm there nothing happens about 440's... But when I get back! I'll stop by the old man's this week and check again. My reverser is exactly as yours... There's a bypass shaft in it. I got a ''non-reverser'' case. It is the same but the cover is flat. If you want the cover...
My plan was to get Bull2 running but I bought a sandblast cabinet and I ended cleaning parts for bull 1 instead . Getting bull2 running was too ambitious. I need to rebuild the transmission (change the input shaft because stripped), replace steering clutches. I planned to fit bull1 final drives on bull2... then load all that in a trailer drive 5 hours and install the whole backend assembly with the help of a neighbour's tractor... I'll spread the work over 2 turnarounds.
Keep the pics coming. And the video...soon

We put shell rotella 40 in all old 2 strokes detroit diesel 71,92,149 series for years. I guess 53 series would be the same.whiteclipse16 wrote: I'm having a heck of a time finding someone close to me that sells the DELO100. Would the Rotella be that horrible to run? (Straight 40W of course).

Thanks iron popper.
I want to run the DELO 100 because of the ash content percentage being so low, but I can't find anyone close that sells it. The shell is still within spec. but somewhat higher than the DELO. (This info is all based off a thread I read on here so I figure it's good info.)
Very smart choice on the blast cabinet. I spent countless hours in front of one on this project. Anything I could fit in it went in. I got a hook up with one of those big outside blasters with it's own air comp. and such and used it to do the undercarriage. It worked great.
You better get us some pictures of bull1 and bull2.
Good luck with that tranny, I'm pretty sure there's only 1 way all those shafts go in and out, and it's not very convenient haha.

I am not an oil expert and likely will never do a comparison with several Detroit 2-53's, but there are good reasons that Detroit states that Delo 100 is to be used.
First, this is a two stroke diesel, not a four stroke. Second, the inner working of these engines is totally different than a four stroke diesel.
I would not run any other brand due to the ash content and other factors. The only thing the others have in common is they are also straight wt.

I guess Delo 100 is not very common on this side of the border. The low ash property is very important for shure. I tested so many 2 strokes Detroit genset at 100% load, I know the oil gets hotter in them. Up to 220F. Cooling system and oil cooler have to work perfect on full load. Anyway I don't work for Shell . Rotella T1 40 is made for those 2 strokes. It is just another excellent choice. Your engine, you're the boss!

I've got a little more progress done over the past week or so. I hoping to get the fuel line stuff straightened out tonight. My biggest obstacle seems to be a fuel filter.
How stiff is too stiff/froze for tracks to be?
My are pretty stuck in some spots where they were flat for a long time. Will I break something if I try running it with them being stiff/stuck?

Very impressive Ben. You are really going to knock one out of the park if it all looks that good. Too bad you dont have the innards for your reverser. The one on mine was in really bad shape. I even questioned if it was worth saving, but am glad that I decided to rebuild it, as it really is a cool feature. At any rate.....nice work Ben, keep the pics coming.

Very nice work.
I asked the old man about the throttle part and he doesn't have one... until the ICD he's waiting for shows up I can't help you on this one. Sorry.

If they are just tight, but will still bend, get the crawler in water and drive it til they loosen up. If they are truly stuck and won't ben, then you will likley break something.
Another thing to try is power washer or steam cleaner. Buddy of mine got all but a few links on a set of tight rails to loosen up with his steam cleaner. Slow, but beats breaking something.

Thanks for the words and advice guys. This board is awesome, there's no way I could've done this crawler without all the help on here.
Iron popper, that's ok I was able to track one down, kind of pricy but at least I have one.
Larry, I wish I had the reverse too but for sake of originality I'll live with it.
Lavoy, the tracks will bend in some spots but I don't want to chance it. I want to use the pressure washer but can't because it's been so dry here. I've been squirting diesel into them and working them with a spud bar. Lot of work but like you said better than breaking something.

It's been a little while since my last update, but things have been moving along.
Hopefully first fire will be the end of this week sometime.
Tracks are nearly freed up enough to put on, I just need to paint them first.
The undercarriage was pretty much a pain to install. Not sure if it was more difficult to do the way I did it but it's together so that's all that matters.
Question for you guys. Where is the ground strap suppose to bolt to on the crawler?
