A little STP oil treatment or motor honey will help with lubrication of your transmission.

We had an issue recently with a couple pump drive gearboxes. They were overheating to the point that the oil burns. John Deere 592 (funk drive). We did some research and found out the Book. They say overfill=overheat. That was actually our case... A lot more that correct level... I guess the excess of oil takes the place of the air needed for ''breathing'' in the case. There must be some kind of fluid compression going on wich create heat. That's a therory... The speed of a 420 transmission maybe won't never go fast enough to create this.Lavoy wrote:Most oil filled cases or whatever you want to call them say not to run overfull. In this particular instance, not sure what it would hurt.

The 420 is nothing like the tractor your talking about. The 420 has very little oil if any in the transmission. About a quart and a half of oil, in this case, getting 2 - 3 quarts in there may be a blessing.
