Trying to remove shaft

Post by henry78 » Mon Dec 31, 2012 4:55 pm

Hi folks, am trying to remove the right drive shaft and brake rotor to repair the inside oil seal. It and the brake rotor do not want to slide off, they are loose and shakes but doesn't want to come off. Is there a ring or some else that needs to be removed? Lent my book to the neighbour and haven't got it back yet.

Thanks for your time.

Not sure exactly what you are working on, pic would not load for me. If you mean the brake drum/steering clutch assembly, that should have stayed with the final drive, not the crawler itself. If so, wiggle and pull or jerk, it will come out eventually.

Hi Lavoy,

No luck if you click the link? I thought we gave the pic "anyone with the link" status. Works for us but we're the owners.

Sorry for the poor terminology, our manual is inaccessible for the next few days.

We took off the track, then right side housing, now looking at the what appears to be the brake/clutch assembly with a shaft sticking out. When I checked the manual a couple months earlier it looked like it all just slid out if you tugged on the shaft. Have some help over the holidays and thought we'd give it a go.

New Year's eve and we're pulling apart a 420C, got to wonder about that.

Thanks.

Lavoy got back to us, should come right off. Looks like it needs some more persuasion. It's a JD 420C, serial number 95353.

Hi Lavoy, you're the man. After 10minutes of twisting and tugging, it came loose and slid out. Thanks very much for your time and the quick accurate responses!
Now to get to the seal... :)
