420 loader/crawler hydraulic question

Post by panhead » Tue Feb 19, 2013 12:42 pm

The top two cylinder's on my loader are leaking fluid.
They are the short one's, with the 2" diameter ram.
I took them apart to replace the seal's.
I can't get the cylinder to compress, is this due to the safety valve?
If so how do I get that valve out of there?
I have them off the dozer, so I could hook-em back up and suck the cylinder in, but is there another way? I could stand on these ram's, and they won't go in.
Thanks
Jim

No safety valve, something is stuck.

Did you possibly put a cap on the lower hydraulic line to keep dirt out while you were working on it and then forget to remove the cap? Gil

Well, they are both sitting on my bench.
Nothing hooked to the dozer.
You'd sure think they would collapse.

some times new cups can be very tight and hard to compress i have had to use a block of wood and a hammer to get them back in far enough to hook back up

I put some o-ring lube on the cup before installing. Occasionaly they still require some beating. gregjo1948
