Here is the new diesel after a tour in the snow. Got the engine warmed up to operating temp, tried out the clutches and the new lights, in general just a quick run to find additional problems.

No, just a good used set. If you were standing close, you can see they have a lot of pitting on them, but have nice tall grousers.
Funny you mention new ones, I am actually working on possibly having new pads. Probalby a long shot, but we'll see.

Sure looks like you carried a lot of sugar, or whatever that white stuff is, back into the shop. We did get a whole 3/4 of an inch of rain this week, may be over 2 inches for the year now. If this drought ever ends, it will take years for the pastures to come back.

Not sure on that one. They made a little over 1200 Pilot Touch crawlers, but given the number of dashes I have seen with the hole in them, I would assume the only made one dash, but could be wrong.
Speaking of Pilot Touch crawlers, the gas 440 I just rolled in the shop yesterday has the Pilot Touch decals on the back of the seat. When I took the clutch housing covers off, the Pilot Touch brake levers are there, although they hacksawed the tops off. Also found the pump mount and associated brackets when I pulled the hood off, kind of neat to see.

Hyd joystick control, no reverser or steering levers, joystick does them both, way, way ahead of its time. I wish they would have kept at it til they perfected it. They said they were hard to keep adjusted under field conditions. My guess is that is like saying the reversers on some of the crawlers were weak, they were, if you had an idiot running them.

I am the proud owner of an original JD Pilot Touch Operator's Manual. I have gotten so much good info from this site, I like to give back when I can.
Enjoy the pics of what it looks like and how it worked.
I agree with Lavoy, when it comes to operating equipment, some people can tear up an anvil with a rubber hammer.
A good equipment operator is not one who can start and drive it, it is someone that knows how to get the most out of it without breaking anything.
