Rollers
440 rollers--How do you get them apart when the set screw is broken? The screws seem to be too hard to drill and heat will damage the seal. Does anyone have a master control (fender mounted dual master cylinder) for gearmatic winch? Thanks, gregjo1948

Broken bolt
I have never done this but I have extracted many broken bolts. If drilling won't work last ditch thing to use a nut and wire feed welder. Weld the nut onto the broken stud thru the center of the nut. Let it cool naturally. then try to back it out. if it breaks, weld another nut on there. Ya gotta use ALOT more heat than ya think ya should, the whole thing must be cherry red. When it starts to turn alittle, appx 1/8 turn, work it back an forth spraying with lube. then snug it down an hit it with a impact wrench. It should spin right out.
Usually the heat this centrally located just on the bolt and doesn't really affect seals/gaskets nearby.
I hope this helps ya out!

440 roller
If you can't get the set screw out then just take an angle grinder and
remove the metal around it down to the shaft.I would not be concerned
about ruining the end cap as alot of times that is the only part still
usable on the roller. There are bunchs of them out there.I keep tripping
over quite a few in the shop most days.If the seals are good is there
another reason you are dismantling the roller? If the roller is badly worn
then the seal might be shot as well.Lack of grease in the roller might make it appear that the seal is still good.
The previous comments pertain to the older style greasable roller and
not the sealed JD or Berco roller.

Thanks for the info. I've used the welded nut trick a few times. I didn't know there are bunches of end caps around. gregjo1948

Not much better advice on getting out the broken set screw other than what was said.
However good luck getting the end cap off. I wanted to take some of mine apart to clean the dirt out the was between the cap and roller and couldn't get those end caps off.
The end caps came off 1 roller. 2 others I ended up messing the threads up on the shaft so I gave up on that project. I even made a puller that bolted in where the roller bolts to the track frame, heated it, and it didn't budge.
Good luck.
