jd2010 starter gas pre 42000

Post by dtoots1 » Sun Feb 24, 2013 3:24 pm

lavoy or anyone knows,
is there some reason why the solenoid and wiring appear to be on the underside of these things? i would think that they should be on the topside of the starter so that u can access easily.

thks

they were all made that way yes it it is a bitch to get to ....one of mine has what looks like it came off of a 3010 and the solenoid is on the top see pics in show and tell..... the one your looking at has no belly pan when the pan is on its even harder you have to go thru the hole in the frame rail to get to the lower bolt to get the starter off
2010 with 622 dozer with mod. 35 ripper and a 2010 with 622 dozer bought in 1969 and a 2010 loader with drott and mod. 36 ripper

2010 starter

Post by dtoots1 » Wed Mar 13, 2013 10:09 am

well guys...got er off...and fixed -- the starter that is...not bad...just bushing 78 cents from jd...but they took er apart and charge $24 so not all that bad...had to turn shaft a bit and put smaller dia bushing on it...

NOW engine is froze....wont budge...so will have to do some considering...i aint working on that pile of limbs...if we can move it to my place at good price i mite still consider.. i see a bit of rust on #3 plug rest appear clean....anything on these #3 issues? is gas and i dont see any way for water to get in there...soaking w/pb blaster now have starter bAck off and cannot move it with the flywheel gear teeth and prybar.. want to try breaker bar on front balancer yet along with pry at flywheel b4 have to pull head off i would want it home to see what can do SSSSSSURE DONT WANT TO WORK under it with being on pile of firewood blocks!

The rain caps on the mufflers for the 2010s are notorious for leaking in rainstorms- if you didn't have a coffee can or something else over it it is possible that enough rainwater got into the exhaust manifold and open exhaust valve to cause some rust on a piston ring and/or sleeve wall.

Here is a thread on the subject- not saying this is your issue but it could be:

(1) JD Straight 450 crawler dozer with manual outside blade; (2) JD 2010 diesel crawler loaders; (1) JD 2010 diesel dozer with hydraulic 6-way blade; (2) Model 50 backhoe attachments, misc. other construction equipment

jd2010 stuck engine

Post by dtoots1 » Thu Mar 14, 2013 1:13 pm

Not this one!...it actually has a tailpipe out of the manifold with an elbow on it and long pipe to muffler and extension over the top of rops, so that is sealed...

i then would suspect possible head gasket????? or something else??
air cleaner did have water and ice in it...but the connection from it to carb had been disconected so no way water into intake from there..
possible condensation setting outside????
