having trouble with the starter on my 2010 diesel, new battery, new cables, all connections good. just won't crank at a good speed. this has been getting slower for some time. I think the starter just needs to be rebuilt, however due to the cost, I'm thinking about trying to find an aftermarket high torque gear reduction starter. my question is has anyone found or installed a gear reduction on a 2010 diesel? if so how did it work? was it worth the cost.

if you haven't cremated it yet put new brushes and 3 (yes there are 3) bushings in it and it should be fine i bet its dragging the armature but if you have over heated it you could have flung the solder out of the commutator connections as for a gear reduction for it i don't know of any for a 2010.... one for a 3020 might fit a 2010 i have what looks like it could be a 3020 standard starter on my 2010 loader it barely fits (look in show and tell jtrichard 2010 loader pics) they are about half way down the page and you can see how tight it is to the frame

A rebuilt starter will make a big difference in cranking speed, so encourage you to do so. If you go to a local shop for a rebuild, it will be cheaper than getting a rebuild off of EPay or somewhere else AND you will know that it fits. Also Lavoy may be a good source if you don't want to rebuild locally.
Lavoy or others would have to weigh in on a gear reduction starter- the lighter weight would be nice during installation but not sure if they are available.
One tip- if your 2010 has the HLR transmission then there is a lever near your left foot in the floorboard that you can pull up and lock during starting. It disconnects the HLR for the engine and allows the engine to turn over much faster. You then have to reengage the lever after it starts to reconnect the HLR.
