Cheep paint

Post by mapaduke@yahoo.com » Sun Mar 17, 2013 11:35 am

I just painted my 420 with magic truck and tractor paint from Tractor supply. I was a little skeptical been an oil base but it actually came out good. I followed the mixing instructions to a T and used a suction feed spray gun. It covered very well and left a nice gloss with the recommended hardener. The only thing I didn't like is that it has some orange peel to it. I'm use to acrylic enamel so next time I will try thinning it a little more and set my air at 45psi.Next week I will spray the yellow. Yellow has a tendency to not cover well so we will see?

Let us know how it looks in a week or so.
I painted a car one time with cheaper paint, it looked good for 2 or 3 days then went dull.
Not saying this is what will happen in this case.

I have had customers bring in their own paint they want to use....
Tractor supply paint works well as long as the hardener is used.
Otherwise it tends to dull and dissolve easily by gas spills.

I did use the recommended amount of hardener. So far it shines well and its been a week now. It did take a good 24hrs to dry to the touch Probably the oil base and that my shop is around 55 degrees this time of year.
Should have it back together in a couple of weeks I will try to post some pictures if I can remember how?
