need help with a 1010
I changed the fuel lines on my 1010, everything seemed to go well I started it and it ran for about 20 minutes, pulled it back in the garage. tried to start it about a week later it started but wasn't running smooth then stalled out. It hasn't started since. I think it might be a pump problem but fuel is pumping, A pump repair shop said if I take off the timing plate and let the fuel drain it may start right up. this didn't work but as I was cranking it I noticed air bubbles comming out where the plate goes. anyone have any ideas. The fuel filters have been replaced, and I have a very small amount of smoke comming from the exhaust but will not turn over at all.
Thanks Tony

Could it be the flexible governor weight retainer ring in the injection pump? gregjo1948

OK Had the pump tested they said it was fine, they checked the shutoff lever and said it was fine, I have it all bleed out and cannot get it to turn over, put a small spray of starting fluid I thought it was gonna start but it was just the starting fluid. maybe my injectors are bad but all four at once?? anyone have any idea's
Thanks Tony

The gravity systems on 1010s and 2010s are self-bleeding- it may run rough but should kick over even with some trapped air. The fact that it ran for 20 minutes first indicates to me that rather than trapped air that there may be some sort of obstruction.
Are you in a cold area, and did the weather change when you let it sit- maybe the diesel has gelled? Does your 1010 have a glass fuel bowl ahaead of the filters that you can check? I have one on my 2010.
Did you do anything else when you changed the lines, like add a cleaner to the fuel tank? You may have mobilized some debris when you changed lines that is plugging an outlet or inlet to the tank.
Are you sure that glow plugs are still working? They are needed for a 1010 to start, especially in cold weather.
Does the starter still turn over rapidly? That alone can cause a 1010 diesel from starting if the compression isn't high enough.
If those aren't the reason, then it could be the pump but hate to start there first when you said a shop confirmed it worked. When you opened the timing window, did you see anything that looked like mouse turds? if so that was the vibration dampener ring.
There are a number of good troubleshooting posts by Jdemaris and others on fuel problems you should read before we throw more ideas out there-these are probably just a few of them:

You should be very careful using starting fluid on a 1010. Do you have 2 shutoff valves on your fuel tank? Have you put air presure back thru the fuel lines to the tank? Pull #1 injector( leave attached to fuel line) and crank the engine over to see if it squirts fuel. gregjo1948

Good point about the ether, and that is probably pretty informative that the glow plugs are not working as well.
