440ICD Steering clutch

Post by gregjo1948 » Wed Apr 03, 2013 12:59 pm

After loosening the throw- out bearing lock bolt, I can't get the throw-out bearing to slide. It will not move either direction and there is no free play in the lever. The cam works and releases the clutch, but it slips because it doesn't fully engage. Can it be the cam is frozen onto thecarrier bearing? Any help will be appreciated. gregjo1948

It is probably rusted into the quill, probably going to have to pull the final.

You can try to get some penetrant on it, but no way to really get any leverage to loosen it up. Not out anything to try.

I got the lock bolt freed up but the throw-out is still puting preasure on the preasure plate fingers. Can the fingers be adjusted on a 440? gregjo1948

Yes they can be adjusted, not with the final on, and should only be done during initial setup. If you can't move the throwout bearing holder, you will need to tear it down.
