Paint codes

Post by Big Bad John » Mon Apr 08, 2013 9:11 pm

I know this question has already been asked a 1000 times...but I didn't have any luck finding it here on the site.

Can anyone tell me the paint codes in DuPont or PPG for the correct (or close) Green and Yellow for the MC's? Preferrably in a single stage.

I just sold a 1944 styled B that had been painted with Valspar from TS and it was almost as dull as primer (I bought it that way). I know lots of folks swear by the Valspar...but I'm not willing to chance having to re-do it if it dulls on me.

Thanks...BBJ

valspar paint

i have seen good and bad valspar results,, the good has been used with hardener, the bad(dull as primer)was with out hardener.
to much thinner will get a dull finish too. keep it thick.

I thought RobK's information on this subject was useful:

Any reason not to just buy them from Deere? I have had good luck with the Deere paint, got a crawler that was done 20 years ago, still looks good.

Honestly...until just a few days ago I did not realize that Deere sold paint (don't know what I was thinking).

Problem for me is the nearest (farm) Deere dealership is 50 miles away.

Guess I could call them and see what they keep in stock.

Thanks for the link Tigerhaze (I would have never found the thread).

Thanks for the comments...BBJ

Well...just called my "local" Deere dealer. They do keep the Classic Green in stock and it is only $64.89 a gallon!! The Yellow is $19.79 a quart. The parts guy said these are ready to spray with no additional additives needed. Guess this is a no brainer for me.

Thanks for the tip Lavoy.

Normally you will cut them about 10% if I remember correctly, I think they would be a little thick otherwise.

Lavoy is correct. I sprayed the industrial yellow and it said right on the can to add thinner. I think it was a 10:1 ratio.
Use the JD thinner too. It says other thinners may cause the paint to separate.
1 gallon of thinner did me 4 gallons of paint I think. Plus washed the gun out once.

Thanks for the advice. I have never sprayed any paint without thinning either (automotive). Obviously the counter guy did not know what he was talking about. I am going after the paint tomorrow and will be sure to pickup the JD thinner as well.
