2010 Track Rollers

Post by wildbill65 » Fri Apr 05, 2013 9:52 am

I need some help in locating a couple of track roller assemblies (brackets and rollers). My 2010 didn't have them on it when I bought it. No wonder the track kept popping off. :o It's pretty rough on the sprockets and rails too.

I would guess that it is a '63-'64 model diesel/crawler.

I sure appreciate this messageboard. You guys are a wealth of information and support.

Thanks so much,
Bill

this one on ebay http://www.ebay.com/itm/john-deere-1010 ... 1c315fb779 so you know 1010 2010 and 350 are the same rollers just the bolt holes are one size bigger on the 350 which works good if your bolt holes are screwed up you can tap to the bigger size thats what i am doing on my 2010... you can get new ones for 350 from lavoy? or berco and others if you dont use the bigger bolts you put bushings in the holes for the smaller bolts

I assume that when you said brackets, you mean the rock guards that go below the track frames. It has been discussed that those are important for stiffening the track frames as well as keeping rocks out of the rollers.

However you shouldn't assume that new rollers will keep your tracks from derailing- new rollers have more "meat" on the rolling surface relative to the tops of the flanges so might actually make it easier to "jump" the rollers if the other undercarriage components are not replaced. Undercarriage generally wears as a set, and if one portion is worn the rest is as well (assuming portions not previously replaced).

There are a number of threads on this in the archives of this board that discuss derailing, so i would suggest finding them. It is often a combination of a number of factors including worn sprocket teeth, "snake" in the track links due to worn pins/ bushings, worn guides on front and top idlers combined with alignment issues with the front idler, and improper (usually too slack) tension.

The first step is to have someone drive the crawler in a straight line while you stand behind it and watch each side for misalignment issues or other causes of derailment. Some of them such as alignment of front idlers may be easily fixable with some spacers.

One other thing- if derailment is happening when driving parallel to side slopes or sharp turns, that is very common with worn undercarriage and best to just avoid those situations. You can see from a number of photos posted why that is important

if you do have a 64 2010 with the late model sprockets, then you have it a little easier because you can get new 350 tracks. Us early 2010 owners have to live with the early rails as new is not available.

Hope this helps you some.

My thanks to TRichard for his assistance in helping me locate the upper track rollers for my 2010.

I hooked up with Greg and he shipped them to me............received yesterday. Now for the fun part-installation. Shouldn't be too bad.

Anyways, thanks again TRichard.

Thanks for the input Tigerhaze. I'll keep those things in mind early on while testing these 'new' rollers. This might be why mine did not come with rollers  .

As far as age, may be '64 - just a guess. JTRichard said it was pre-42000. No ID tag on this crawler.

I've gotten pretty good at putting the track back on. So good, I dont want to do it again any time soon  I try to take it easy on the old girl while turning or working on a side slope. Usually have no trouble on flat level ground. Unfortunately, not a lot of that in the Ozarks.

Thanks again.

I started re-reading the original posts about upper track rollers and the bracket and got a little confused on whether you were referring to the rollers (bottom rollers) or the top idler (top roller). Anyhow I am glad you got what you needed.

Since you don't have a tag on the right side bellhousing, it's a pretty safe bet you have a pre-42,000 machine. You can norrow the age range a little further if you wanted from some minor difference on the engine such as the type of injector nozzles. It's not a real big deal to know the year, but you do have to be careful when ordering parts with a serial number break. The online or harcopy parts manual is handy for that.

My 2010 originally came from the Missouri Ozarks, so I know what you mean about not much flat ground.
