430 Timing Issue

Post by foxd » Fri May 17, 2013 3:41 pm

I ran into an interesting situation today while attempting to start my 430 for the first time. I could get it to pop every once in awhile, but could not get it to take off and run, no matter how I rotated the distributor. After lots of pondering, I began to second guess whether or not I had timed the oil pump properly, yesterday I would have sworn I had timed it correctly, now I was not so sure. What I eventually found was that at sometime earlier in it's life someone had removed the drive coupler from the end of the distributor and reinstalled it 180° off. I was sure glad I found it before I tore the oil pan back off. Fired right up after that. :D
