motor tight
motor tight
had to replace the cam bushings in my 420's motor, get everything put back together and now it seems like the motor is turning tight. would not fire and after on a few cranks the starter was warm and smoking a little bit.
i'm totally lost on this one guys, any help would be great.

also just had the starter rebuild about a month ago. i had the battery on the charger and it was turning slow so i put it up on boost and let it sit for a min or two. first pull of the starter turned close to normal speed for about 2 cranks then would barely spin the motor. the more i'm thinking about this could i have a starter issue?? or maybe its me hoping its a starter issue and not in the motor. thanks in advance for the help guys, starting to think this crawler is cursed!!

I would turn the engine by hand somehow to get a fell for how tight it is.

lavoy,
we were able to turn the motor by hand with the flywheel to time the oil pump and it did seem overly tight, that was after we took the governor off, and i believe we have it assembled correctly. you dont happen to have a pic of one correctly on the motor with the cover off do you? i will try and turn the motor by hand and see what i come up with.
Duke,
i was sort of thinking the same thing, but its brand new cables that are correct gauge.

Cam bushings have an oil hole that needs to line up. This isn't an easy do it yourselfer job.after install did the new bushings get reamed to size? Just trying to help.
Any chance it has flooded while starting since the work was done? Cylinders may be washed from the gas. Often a hard start issue.

the cam bushings are in correctly with the holes lined up with the oil slots that was actually the easy part. now somebody mentioned reaming the new bearings?? didnt know that was a requirement, if i'm remembering right it didnt mention anything about that in the manual. is there any easy way to do that?
also is there a trick to keep the cam followers in the block without turning it upside down?? really didnt want to pull the motor yet again.

Cam bushings should have been to size on that engine, never had a set that weren't.
