steering clutch striped the fiber clutches after 21 hours

Post by jimmiediesel24 » Sun Jun 16, 2013 9:36 pm

Installed new steel and fiber disc and new pressure plates. After 21 hour of work the left side quit pulling. Took it apart and the teeth on all the fiber disc are striped. Any idea why?? 450 john deere. crawler

The disc were from A&I. No oil. Bearings look good. The out side on was new. What do you think about metallic disc. And what having fiber on one side and metallic on the other side?

As Richard said, this may be a potential reason for the disc splines being stripped:

As for metallic discs in lieu of fiber discs, they are a few drawbacks. Read this thread (especially pay attention to Digitup2's and Lavoy's comments about clutch aggressiveness):

The garbage discs are the blackish/greyish made in USA discs. I have literally had them break in the box in shipment to a customer. The A&I discs should be fine, I can get you different ones if you want.
Assuming they discs were not garbage, there is an underlying problem.
